Jean Ann (Bowers) Kottyan, born July 1, 1932 in Bucyrus to the late Richard M. and Evelyn V. (Siebanoller) Bowers, died early Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Marion General Hospital from complications after recent surgery.
Jean married Robert G. Slayton in 1951, later divorced. James F. Bender married Jean in 1955 and they had four children, twin daughters Judy A. Bender and Joy A. Bender, son Jeffrey F. Bender, and daughter Joan A. Bender, 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. They divorced in 1969.
In 1985, Jean married Eugene S. Kottyan. They were married 21 years when Eugene passed away in 2006.
Jean lived most of her life in Bucyrus, graduating from Bucyrus High School in 1950. She was a homemaker but held jobs as a bookkeeper, secretary, and other various work.
Jean LOVED cars and driving them. She also read books, flower-gardening drawing pictures, writing letters, poetry, and short stories. She also loved to sing and listen to classical music.
Jean grew up in the Catholic Church and later worshiped and sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Bucyrus. She returned to the Catholic faith and looked forward to receiving Holy Communion from the priests and deacons at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marion.
At her request, there will be no calling hours and a private graveside service will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her father who she lost at the age of four.
Though no public services are being held, Jean can be remembered with a donation made payable to Bucyrus Salvation Army and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
