Joseph David Nauman, 34, of Galion died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Galion Community Hospital.
He was born January 16, 1979 in Marion to Joseph A. Nauman and Alison L. (Spraggins) Allonas. Growing up, JD played baseball and basketball and was active in 4-H, showing his Sheltie at the State Fair. He went to Colonel Crawford and Pioneer JVS where he studied graphic design and graduated in the Class of 1997. He went on to work in graphic arts, most recently at LifeTouch in Galion.
JD had an eclectic bunch of interests, especially anything he could get hands-on with, like gardening, remodeling, and yard work. He was an avid reader and owned dozens of books of all sorts, especially works that stretched him and made him think. He enjoyed playing guitar and piano and loved listening to a variety of music from jazz to rock and some classical. JD was a Buckeyes, Browns, and Indians fan and followed sports and statistics from an early age. He loved to cook as well, finding any excuse he could to incorporate bacon into a dish. In recent years, he took an interest in politics and became very active in the Libertarian Party.
JD loved his children, Layla, Jackson, Emmerson, and Dylan. He often got down to their level to play and teach them sports like soccer, basketball, and baseball. In addition to his beloved children, he is survived by his mother, Alison (Jerry) Allonas of Bucyrus; father, Joe (Tricia) Nauman of Monroe, Ga.; brothers, Abbott Kendall and Trey Allonas; stepsisters, Sherry (Pepper) Stevens and Kara Workman; two half-brothers, Kyle and Ryan Nauman; his maternal grandfather, George (Ila) Spraggins; paternal grandparents, Ed (Sandy) Nauman and Shelby Nauman; and several cousins and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Eloise Spraggins and aunt, Stephenie Eastmann.
JD will be remembered as an artist and an open thinker with a quick wit and sense of humor. He was creative, loved photography and writing, and was seldom seen without wearing one his infamous hats, especially his favorite cabbie hat.
JD's family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23 from 1-5 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor JC Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Those wishing to leave memorial donations are asked to give them to Wise Funeral Service to assist with the unexpected expenses.
