Jannetta K. Martin, 86, of rural Bucyrus died naturally, yet unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
She was born October 16, 1930 in Bucyrus to the late Irvin and Mary (Kalb) Stahl and grew up near Sulphur Springs. When Charles Martin moved to Sulphur Springs in the fifth grade, he picked her out and never loved another. They graduated in 1948 and were married September 1, 1950 and honeymooned in New England, the first of many trips they enjoyed together.
Jannetta worked for Ohio Mutual Insurance for over 25 years and was a gifted musician and vocalist. She played several instruments and was pianist and organist for a number of churches, currently serving the Plymouth and Tiro United Methodist Churches. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her delicious pies. She and Charles did everything together, from preparing meals to singing duets.
Their travels took them all over the United States with Amish country and the Smoky Mountains being favorite destinations. Their flower gardens were a labor of love and Jannetta loved visiting gardens and snapping pictures of them. When visiting Georgia they attended church with and sat in on President Carter’s Sunday School class. And who could forget her memorable encounter with a bear that Charles caught on film? Mostly, they loved to eat out and had several favorite restaurants they found on their journeys.
In addition to her husband of 66 years, Jannetta is survived by children, Dave Martin of Bucyrus, Debra (Jerry) Stoffl of Aurora, and John (Patty) Martin of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Amie (Brian) Caldwell, Eric Martin, Jared Althouse, Tyler (Brittany) Althouse, Jerry Stoffl (Emily Hampton), Christopher (Lee) Stoffl, Ryan Martin, Britten (Tessa) Martin, Shelby (Brett) Brodbeck, and Bethany (Kyle) Rall; nine great grandchildren with one expected; her brother, John (Virginia) Stahl of Bucyrus; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Aaron Miller.
The Martin family will receive friends on Friday, December 16 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where her funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:30. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
Donations can be given through the funeral home to Friends of the Smokies or a charity of the donor’s choice and memories and photos can be shared on Jannetta’s Tribute Wall.
