Janie Villasana

Janie Villasana, 95, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021 at her home.

She was born July 9, 1925 in Shelby, Ohio, daughter of the late Glen and Mary (Stiving) Matthews and her adoptive parents, Earl and Florence Stiving. Janie is now with her family who preceded her in death, including her sister, Geneva McEwen and brother, Earl Stiving.

Janie graduated from Shiloh High School and worked for several years at Timken before retiring from GE in 1988. She was a member of the former First United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge, Chapter 741.

Janie cherished time spent with family and shared many fun times socializing with friends. She enjoyed her beautiful roses, took meticulous care of her lawn, and looked forward to visits from her out of town family and friends. She liked reading a good book, which often led to a nap on her back porch. She considered herself a homebody and liked her “telly” routine, which included many shows. She and close friend, Linda Zucker made many trips to Red Lobster and Bob Evans and no matter where she ate, mashed potatoes and gravy were a favorite. Janie will be remembered as a feisty lady and also as a mother who taught her kids to do things right the first time. A characteristic they’ve passed on to their families.

She was tremendously devoted to her family and considered them to be her greatest accomplishment. She is survived by five children, Tony (Susan) Villasana of Saint Louis, MO., Terry (Glenn) Starrett of Wills Point, TX., Theresa Villasana of Bucyrus, Tamara (Dan) Barker of Bucyrus and Tina (Donnie) Moore of Pickerington; 12 grandchildren, Andy Villasana, Matt (Jill) Villasana, Jessica (Ryan Platte) Sindel, Alicia (Jeff Nelson) Vega, Michelle (Kevin) Epperson, Shawn (Jolie) Starrett, Nick (Heather) Johnson, Nicole (Hogan) Gatto, Josh Barker, Kelsie (Scott) Feichtner, Wyatt Moore and Carmen Moore; great grandchildren, Reed, Maggie, Sofia, Cora, Alice, Nolan, Leo, Sophia, Knox, Karlie, Dalton, Zowie, Casie, Morgan, Scout, Cheyenne and Jackson; one great-great grandchild and her special friends, Linda Zucker and Cheryl Heistand.

Friends may call from 12-12:55 pm Friday, February 19 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will begin that day at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made payable to either Bucyrus UMC or Avita Hospice. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page.
