Janice F. Neikirk

Janice F. Neikirk, 87, of Bucyrus died Monday, October 10, 2011 at Heartland of Bucyrus.

She was born August 25, 1924 in Crawford County to the late Garret and Eva (Mollenkolpf) Miller. Janice graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1942. George Neikirk took her on their first date to the Ritz Theater in Tiffin and they were married on February 6, 1943, sharing 61 years of marriage and partnership until his death in 2004.

Janice was a tireless "working mother" of five, assisting her husband in his veterinary practice as office manager. She enjoyed racing horses, always dressing in her best on race day. She could be seen listening to the races and writing in her race program just a few weeks ago on Little Brown Jug Day. Janice took pride in her family, always aspiring to be as good a mom to her children as her mother had been. She enjoyed sports, following the Ohio State Buckeyes and her children and grandchildren's events. Janice was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Grange and St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was in the Naomi Ruth Circle. She was a past member of the U.S. Trotting Association.

Surviving Janice are children, James (Kathy) Neikirk of Greenville, Barbara (Paul) McMullen of New Albany, Mary (Steve) Yaussy of Davis, Calif. and Karen (Steve) Kent of Galion; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, John (Sandra) Miller and sister, Naomi Clady.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Neikirk and granddaughter, Debra Neikirk.

Services for Janice will be held Saturday, October 15 at Wise Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. followed by Order of the Eastern Star rites at 11 a.m., and then the funeral will commence with Rev. Jack Kocsis officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Heartland Activities Fund or the Humane Society Serving Crawford County through the funeral home.
