Janet Irene Staton, 91, died February 15, 2016 at Galion Community Hospital.
She was born April 15, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Gerald and Florence E. (McKnight) Walterhouse.
On April 5, 1941, Janet married John C. Slabach who preceded her in death in March of 1975. When John was sick, Janet received her LPN certificate so she could care for him and she also worked at Galion Community Hospital. A few years following his death, Janet married Carl Staton and shortly thereafter, they moved to Florida where she continued caring for individuals as a LPN. They returned in 1991 and she finished her career at Heartland of Bucyrus. Carl also preceded Janet in death.
Janet was a member of the Bucyrus Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she was a former Sabbath School teacher and assisted with bringing in performers. She enjoyed time spent with family and could often be found crocheting, sewing quilts, or working in her floral garden.
She is survived by two children, John (June) Slabach of Crestline and Joan (David) Buhler of Orange City, Florida; five grandchildren, Dawne Slabach, Jill Slabach, Bryan (Hether) Buhler, Laurie (Debapriya) Banerjee, and Carrie (Jim) Allman; two step-grandchildren, Diana Sharp and Sara Sharp; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne (Betty) Walterhouse of Bucyrus, Donald Walterhouse of Woodbury, Tenn., and Ronnie (Rhonda) Parsel of Middletown, Ohio; one sister, Marie Langlois of Bucyrus; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Melton; one sister-in-law, Nancy Walterhouse; and two brothers-in-law, Dave Langlois and Clyde Melton.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, February 18 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Pastor Marcellus de Oliveira officiating.
Burial will follow in Little Sandusky Cemetery near Harpster.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
