James H. Kehres, 70, of Bucyrus went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday morning, April 20, 2011.
He was born December 4, 1940 in Huron County to the late Isadore and Eleanor (Smith) Kehres. Jim graduated from New Washington High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1960 and married the former Rose Eberly July 23, 1966.
Jim's working career took him to Swan Rubber, the Bucyrus Moose Lodge, and Findlex. He also owned and operated Pete's Café in New Washington for 15 years and sold various goods and services throughout his career.
Jim came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in 1991 and began serving the Lord through prayer, Bible study, song writing, poetry and telling everyone he became acquainted with about the gospel. He wrote over 100 gospel songs and recorded five albums with his wife. They enjoyed sharing their ministry in song as members of Christ Gospel Church in Bucyrus and in nursing homes throughout the area. Jim also enjoyed golfing, hunting and valued time with his family. He is remembered as a man who loved the Lord, loved his family and had a tremendous work ethic.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years; son, Roger (Vicki) Kehres and children Issac and Hayden Kehres and Kasey Seif of New Washington; son, Jeffrey (Melissa) Kehres and children Taylor, Lucas and Savannah Kehres of Deatsville, Ala.; daughter, Angela Kehres at home; daughter, Jennifer (Clint) Green and children Ashley, Haley, Ally and Clay Green of New Washington; son, Jacob (Ellen) Kehres and children Benjamin and Calvin Kehres of Bloomsburg, Pa.; brothers, Roman Kehres and William Kehres; sisters, Ruth Rice, Alice Alt, Louise Roth, Kathleen Leber, and Marilyn Kraft as well as many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Charles and Victor Kehres and his sister, Joan Ehresman.
The Kehres family will receive friends on Friday, April 22 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jack Hager officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites provided by Post 181, American Legion. Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Gospel Church or Heartland Homecare and Hospice of Fremont through the funeral home.
