The Professor, Jim Hahn, officially signed off following his unexpected death early Friday morning, April 13, 2018 at Bucyrus Community Hospital as a result of bilateral pneumonia.
Jim was born March 24, 1956 in Bucyrus to the late James E. Hahn I, and Joyce A. (Linn) Hahn who resides in Bucyrus. He spent most of his life in Bucyrus and was a 1974 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and spent several years as an accountant at various places including Bucyrus Blades, Farmers Citizens Bank, and Bucyrus Community Hospital. During this time, he was also moonlighting part time for WBCO/WQEL which eventually led to a fulltime career in radio broadcasting. Jim’s passion in life was music; therefore this job was like an incredible hobby, lasting over 20 years until his recent retirement.
Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church and at one time had served as treasurer. He formed many great relationships over the years and will be remembered for his excellent knowledge of music ranging from the 60s to the 90s. He owned thousands of vinyl records which he occasionally traded with other locals. In addition to music, Jim enjoyed the arts and being outdoors. He spent many hours hunting arrowheads and other Indian artifacts; and he had a great deal of luck finding mushrooms every spring. He loved playing tricks on anyone and he cherished times earlier in life when he played his guitar while putting his two children to bed.
In addition to his mom, Jim is survived by two children, Jessica (Steven) Stetson of Melbourne, Florida and Master Sgt. Jason Hahn, currently serving with the US Air Force in Italy; one sister, Josette Mok of Mansfield; two nieces, Mi-Lynn and Haylee Mok; as well as Joyce’s companion, Glenn Holdcraft who treated Jim as his son. Jim also loved, Molly, his cat of 22 years.
His family will gather with friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Wise Funeral Service where they hope to hear the stories of how Jim touched lives. The evening will conclude with prayer. All friends are welcome to wear their favorite music attire and anything Beatles would certainly have brought a smile to Jim.
Donations can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and will be accepted through the funeral home.
