Jacob D. Leuthold, 40, of Bucyrus was found dead at his residence on Monday, April 2, 2012.
He was born July 31, 1971 in Gresham, Ore., son of David R. Leuthold, who resides in Bucyrus, and Patricia (Nicholas) Smith, residing in Portland, Ore. At the age of seven, Jacob asked Jesus into his heart and was a good-natured young boy. Unfortunately, some poor decisions were made and, because of those decisions, life was not as easy or enjoyable as he would have desired.
Jacob wanted to be successful and wasn't afraid of the hard work needed to make it happen. He was living in Columbus where he served an apprenticeship as an electrician and also did concrete work on the side. He had a knack for tinkering with electronics and even tore the motor out of his dad's razor so he could use it for something else he needed. He enjoyed remote control helicopters; spoiling his dog, Sheba and was into Star Wars when he was younger, but what really made him happy was buying things for kids. Whether gifts for his niece and nephews or the children of friends, seeing the look on their face was why he did it.
In addition to his parents, Jacob is survived by his sister, Heidi (Dave) Hendrickson; two nephews, Braxton Zier and Dave Hendrickson and his niece, Skyla Leuthold, all of Bucyrus; one uncle, Daniel (Karen) Leuthold of Midvale, Idaho; two aunts, Gloria (Zane) Peterson and Corinne Vondross both of Portland, Ore.: brothers and sisters from Portland, Nicole, Joshua, Daniel, Tanya, Mark, and Markie; Jacob was met in Heaven by his paternal grandparents, Pastor Reuben and Lois Leuthold and his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Nicholas.
Jacob moved back to Bucyrus in 2009 after running out of money due to some of his poor choices. He wanted a cleaner life but it was too much. His family hopes that others reading this will understand how quickly fortunes can turn for the worse and seek help as Jacob was trying to do.
Jacob was cremated and a public memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at Father's Heart Healing Center, 320 Woodlawn Ave., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memorial contributions may be given to Together We Hurt, Together We Heal or a charity of the donor's choice through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
