Jack L. Plew

Jack Plew, 79, of Galion, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Jack was born on June 18, 1944 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Elton H. and Martha R. (Jasinski) Plew. In 1962, he graduated third in his class from Union High School and immediately enlisted in the Air Force. Jack proudly served his country for four years and was stationed in Vietnam on three different occasions. Jack was highly skilled at injection molding and worked for various companies over the years, including Rubbermaid in Wooster and retired from Yutaka in Cardington.

He married Janet Cole in 1974 and she preceded him in death in 1989. In 1995 he married Linda C. Tanner, whom he knew through church, and she survives.

Jack was a man of strong faith and worshipped over the years at Gospel Baptist, Ontario Christian Fellowship and Crossroads in Mansfield. He was a very patriotic man and always went out of his way to thank others for their service. He looked forward to being honored on Veteran’s Day and proudly displayed the American flag at his home.

He loved time spent working in his yard and there were many days from sun-up until dusk he’d be found tending to something outside. Jack spent many Tuesdays playing euchre at the Galion Golden Age Center and also looked forward to card games with his family. During the colder months, he enjoyed working puzzles and at any time throughout the year, he loved cheering on his Ohio State Buckeyes.

Jack is survived by wife, Linda; children, Brian (Clara) Plew, Tonja Plew, Shonta Plew, and Cindy (Dave) Schunatz; stepdaughter, Lisa Fisher; grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Maleah, Jackson, Crystal, Hunter, Connor, Kolbie, Kiersten, Ian, Oliver, Richelle, Gabrielle, Aaron, Jesse, Shane, and Leah; many great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Sandy) Plew and Robert “Bobby” Plew.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Janet, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Ann Wilson; stepdaughter, Valerie Shafer, Stepson, Aaron Kelly and stepson-in-law, Jamie Fisher.

Friends are invited to gather with family at Jack’s grave in Mansfield Memorial Park, 2507 Park Ave. W., Ontario, Ohio, at 2:00 pm Friday, May 24 where Military Rites will be observed by both the US Air Force Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail, followed by a service officiated by Pastor Steve Keib.
