Ivan “Monroe” Earl, 66, of Crestline, died December 18, 2021 at Galion Community Hospital.
Monroe was born October 6, 1955 to Doris (Stinson) Earl and the late Ivan Earl on the Craig Air Force Base in Dallas County, Alabama. The family moved to Crestline in 1956 to set down roots. Monroe was a 1974 graduate of Crestline High School and had attended Michigan State University, of which he was a huge fan. As a young adult, Monroe wrote sports articles for the local newspapers for 10 years. He also took photos for his articles. Monroe had worked at the Walker Newsstand in Crestline and then worked at Park Lanes before retiring.
Monroe was an avid reader. He spent his free time at the Crestline Public Library where he would spend hours reading whatever books he could get his hands on. When he wasn’t at the library, he was reading and listening to music at his favorite picnic bench. He loved all music with classic rock being his favorite. Monroe was also a collector of vintage comics and movies.
Monroe is survived by mother, Doris Earl; brothers, Marvin (Cindy) Earl, Melvin Earl, and Montgomery Earl; nieces, Anelisa (Myron) Russell, Amanda (Dominic) Stinehour, Jackquelyn Earl, and Joczelyn Earl; nephews, Anthony (Abby) Earl and Jasper Earl; several aunts and uncles; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Earl, and sister-in-law, Christina Earl.
The family is respecting Monroe’s wishes for no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to the Crestline Public Library and sent to Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Monroe’s Tribute Wall.
