Iva Shroll

Iva Shroll, 98, of Oceola died Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2012 at her residence after recently falling ill.

She was born March 31, 1914 in northwest Arkansas, daughter of the late Snow Wages. After leaving school, she worked in a tomato cannery and as a waitress before becoming the caretaker of Jesse Shroll. When Jesse died, his nephew from Ohio, Carl Shroll, came to Arkansas for the funeral, stepped into his uncle's house and "there was Iva." She and Carl wrote back and forth during a two-year courtship and were married September 30, 1939. She moved to Ohio with him, sharing over 62 years of marriage before his death February 24, 2002.

Iva was a soft spoken, friendly lady whom everyone could depend on. She will be remembered for her "green thumb," growing beautiful flowers and a thriving vegetable garden. She also enjoyed collecting antiques while visiting thrift shops and flea markets. When home, she could be found quilting or doing embroidery and seldom missed an episode of "As the World Turns" for over 50 years. She also liked reading Louis L'Amour and other novels set in her native Ozark Mountains. Iva was a member of Oceola United Methodist Church where she was in the Truth Seekers.

Iva is survived by three sons, Edwin and Don Shroll, both of Oceola, and Gary (Joyce) Shroll of Oregon City, Ore.; two grandchildren, Josh (Brenda) Shroll and Erin Shroll and three great grandchildren, Lauren, Ella and Aidan Shroll.

In addition to her mother and husband, Iva was preceded in death by her brother, Olen Wages.

The Shroll family will receive friends Friday, June 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where the funeral will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pat Fruth officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Oceola UMC or a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
