Hugh B. Howard, 90, of Marana, AZ, formerly of Bucyrus, OH, died August 1, 2010. Hugh B. Howard was born in Warren, Ohio on January 11, 1920 to Maurice B. Howard and Aleta Leone Buck Howard. He attended Howland School in Warren through 12th grade, and then went to Asbury College in Kentucky. In 1942, during WWII, he enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Texas, and then in New Caledonia as a T/Sgt until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and received the American Theater Ribbon, the AP Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal-World War II. He then returned to college where he earned his BA in mathematics. After his military service and graduation from college, he worked as a bookkeeper for Hamilton-Meigs in Warren for 17 years. In 1963 he and his family moved to Bucyrus where he worked as an accountant with George Boyd, and then continued with his own accounting office, Hugh Howard Accounting. Hugh met Eleanor Margret Dugan at Asbury College. They were married in September of 1941 and had five children; Hugh David, Eleanor Ruth, Linda, Marcia, and Rebekah. After 56 years of marriage, Eleanor Margret passed away from leukemia in 1997. In 2001 he married Mary Ann Schrader Workman and moved to Marana, Arizona. He was loved deeply and will be deeply missed. While living in Ohio, Hugh was active in the church. He attended the C&MA church in Warren, Ohio; the Baptist Church in Galion, Ohio; and the C&MA church in Bucyrus. He was a charter member of the Bucyrus church, as well as an elder, a Gideon, and the choir director for many years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing the cornet, reading, and traveling. He has traveled to or through every state in the US and several foreign countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Israel. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, M.B. and Aleta Howard; his brother, Bryant Howard; his first wife, Eleanor Margret Howard; and his son, Hugh David Howard. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Schrader Workman Howard; his daughters, Eleanor Wilhite of Bucyrus, Ohio; Linda Munday of Muncie, Indiana; Marcia Starr of Cleveland, Ohio; Rebekah Fortner of Kayenta, Arizona; as well as 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Graveside services with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 181 will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Bruce Workman officiating.
