Howard C. Stineman, 89, of Bucyrus, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2024 following his passing at Avita Health System in Bucyrus.
Howard was born at home in Lykens Twp. on July 15, 1934 to the late Carl W. and Estella M. (Candel) Stineman. He was a 1952 graduate of Lykens High School and two years later, enlisted to serve in the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood Texas. Following his honorable discharge in 1956, Howard returned home and married Patricia Jean Nelson on December 9, 1956. They shared 63 plus years of love until her passing on October 8, 2020.
Howard certainly wasn’t afraid of a hard days work. He spent a number of years at Timken; owned and operated Stineman’s Hilltop Gulf Station and then in the early 1960s, he became a co-owner of both Suburban and Gala Lanes, a venture that lasted until his retirement in 1991. Howard’s love of the bowling industry led him to spend several years working for Stellar Bowling Service, where he traveled the state repairing and refinishing lanes.
Howard was a man of strong faith in the Lord. He worshiped at Calvary Baptist Church, where he had assisted with Vacation Bible School and enjoyed time spent with friends in the ABC Club. He was also a member of The Amvets and the Moose Lodge.
Howard was happiest around family and will be forever remembered for the support and encouragement he offered over the years. They were fortunate to take many summer vacations and he and Pat also enjoyed 20 years camping at Lake Erie, where he loved to fish. He certainly enjoyed bowling and throughout his career, bowled in two or three leagues at a time. Howard was a very patriotic man, who was proud to have helped make our country a better place through his time spent in the Army. He was humbled by his trip to DC on the Honor Flight which occurred on May 19, 2018. Howard took meticulous care of his yard and was happy when neighbors commented on how nice their property looked. He was a sports fanatic and did his best to be in front of a TV when his Buckeyes were in action. In more recent years, he could often be spotted cruising his neighborhood on his electric golf cart and waved to many folks as he drove by.
He will be missed by his three daughters, Pamela (Jim) Welling of Wyoming, Lori (Glen) Gailey of Lexington, and Doreen (Mark) Fritchen of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Gailey, Nathan (Natalie) Gailey, Lyndsee (Kevin) Spangler, Kayleigh (Dustin) DeLuca, Shannon Welling, Sydney Welling and Allison (Grant) Seredick; 13 great grandchildren, Kayden, Sylas, Jude, Harper, Hemley, Laila, Felicity, Bree, Isaiah, Noah, Autumn, Gemma and Dominic; two brothers, Paul (Elaine) Stineman and James Stineman.
Calling hours for Howard will be from 11 – 12:55 pm Saturday, February 10 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with his grandsons, Pastor Nathan Gailey, and Pastor Justin Gailey officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery and Military Rites will be provided by the Army Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
If desired, donations can be made payable to Calvary Baptist Church and will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
