Helen M. Powers, 70, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Bucyrus Community Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Helen was born January 2, 1943 in Bucyrus to the late Roy M. and Thelma A. (Thompson) Fackler. She was a 1960 graduate of Bucyrus High School and on December 31, 1964 she married her first and only love, Richard Nolan "Noley" Powers who preceded her in death in January of 2009.
Helen loved people. She always shared her smile and a hug whenever possible. She spent 20 years caring for people while working at Maplecrest and also worked at Advantage Glass for a few years. Helen finished her work career at Poly Clean, working there until they closed.
She was a member of the Bucyrus First Church of the Nazarene and occasionally visited the Crestline Nazarene Church. Helen was also a member of the 60s Chicks who she enjoyed meeting for monthly lunches to catch up on events.
Helen's greatest accomplishments were her family. She loved spending time with them as well as her close friends, Karen Dyer and Reta King with whom she enjoyed visits to the ice cream shop, grabbing lunch, playing bingo or occasionally pulling slots. In addition to sharing her happiness with others, Helen loved to crochet and was always giving a blanket or a bonnet to someone. She enjoyed taking pictures, listening to Elvis and her angel collection.
Helen is survived by two children, Kelly Jo (Johnathon) Beeman of Galion and Misty (Leo) Myers of Bucyrus; three step-children, Lynn Ann Friend of Bucyrus, Virginia (Ed) Martin of Nevada and Billie Vanbuskirk of Bucyrus; four grandchildren, Noah Thornton, Sarah Thornton, Tyler Myers and Hannah Myers; six step-grandchildren, Traci Wright, Christopher Waldbauer, Stacy Mullins, Chad Buckner, Carl Vanbuskirk and Mike Vanbuskirk; three great-grandchildren, Serenity Pagent, Carter Thornton and Logan Frey in addition to numerous step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
