Harvey Earl Young

Harvey Young, 94, of Bucyrus passed away November 18, 2021 at Heartland of Bucyrus.



Harvey was born June 1, 1927 to the late George Edgar and Mabel Viola (Campbell) Young in Bucyrus. He attended Bucyrus High School before serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Hanson for two years during World War II. After his honorable service, he began working at Koons Cleaning, later becoming an owner. During square dancing, Harvey met the love of his life, Glenna Hedge. They dated for a few years before marrying on August 26, 1950. He would later start working as a Librarian Guard for the Marion Correctional Institution before retiring. Harvey was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Marion Road Church of Christ.



Harvey was known as a quiet man. However, when he did speak, it was always something clever. His jokes were never at anyone’s expense and he was a lovable person. He loved his family and the time they got to spend together. Harvey enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling. Before covid, Harvey and his friends would get coffee at McDonald’s daily.



In addition to his wife of 71 years, Harvey is survived by his daughters, Deborah Walker (Dale) Miller and Gail (George) Neubert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and George Russell Young; sisters, Velma Young, Hazel Brady, Edith Greissing, and Carrie May Anderson; and his parents.



The Young’s will receive friends on Tuesday, November 23 from 1-2 PM with his service to follow at Wise Funeral Service with Pastor Doug DeVos officiating. Burial will follow at Texas Township Cemetery in Benton, Ohio.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to Marion Road Church of Christ and can be sent to the funeral home at 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on Harvey’s tribute wall.
