Harold W. Yaussy, 84, formerly of Bucyrus and most recently of Colorado Springs where he was being cared for by his daughter, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Gentle Care House in Colorado Springs, CO.
He was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Wesley S. and Bessie(Durigg)Yaussy and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1944. He was employed at Crum Appliance in Bucyrus. Harold then attended Kent State and taught at Pioneer Vocational School, Shelby from where he retired. He served in the Korean War, was a member of the Ohio Teachers Association and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Galion.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his first wife Marilouise (Gledhill) Yaussy; his second wife, Dorothea (Kurtz) Steiger; a son, Robert Yaussy of Houston, Texas and a sister, Vivian Appleby.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Burwell; grandchildren, Haley Shelhamer of Colorado Springs, CO and Ross, Robbie and Ryan Yaussy of Houston, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Laura (Williams) Yaussy; one step-daughter, Roxanne (Ron) Palenshus; one step-son, Larry (Rhonda) Steiger; grandchildren, Craig, Scot, and Chad Palenshus. Tiffany Butler and Tabitha Dye. Six great grandchildren; four sisters, Marcele Yaussy, Dorothy (Oliver) Wood, Marge (Jeff) Brooks, Vera (Russell) Swinehart in addition to numerous nieces and a nephew.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 Saturday, February 26 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Snode officiating. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestline, Ohio where full military rites will be provided. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul UMC or charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
