Harold J. Brewer, 84, of Sycamore died early Monday morning, May 5, 2014 at Altercare of Bucyrus after several months of declining health.
He was born in Wyandot County on November 14, 1929 to the late John and Hazel (Heffelfinger) Brewer. The Brewers eventually moved to Crawford County where Harold graduated from Lykens High School in 1947. He worked for Ziegler Milling Co. before answering his country’s call to serve in the Army from 1951-1953. Later that year, Harold married Lois Stetzer on October 17, 1953 and honeymooned in Niagara Falls. He worked at Swan Rubber for a short time before purchasing the farm adjacent to his parents to pursue the livelihood he loved. Harold and Dave owned and operated LHD Water Service for many years, filling countless cisterns and swimming pools in the area.
Harold will be remembered as a hard working farmer. Never one to give up, if a job needed done, he did it. While he enjoyed being home, Harold and Lois were able to go on a few bus trips, traveling out west and to Florida for a cruise. He followed the Cleveland Indians, OSU basketball and could be seen at his grandsons’ events as they grew up. He always liked family get-togethers, playing cards, and played Santa on many occasions. A lifelong Catholic, Harold was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Harold served on parish council, was a church usher, and he and Lois were long-time Holy Trinity Bingo volunteers.
Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Brewer; two sons, Daryl Brewer and David (Lynn) Brewer; two grandsons, Jeremy (Melissa) Brewer and Christopher (Mindy) Brewer; twin great granddaughters, Allison and Aubrey; sister, Martha Beard and brother, Vernon (Geraldine) Brewer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Neil Beard and two nieces, Penny Buckingham and Pam Van Buren.
The Brewers will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Friday, May 9 from 4-7 p.m. closing with Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Fr.
