Guy R. Hamlin

Guy R. Hamlin, 93, died peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Maplecrest Assisted Living under the care of Avita Hospice.

He was born in Bucyrus on February 3, 1928 to the late Guy W. and Dora E. (Bethel) Hamlin. Guy graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1946, then worked for Swan Rubber and Galion Iron Works before joining The Timken Co. where he retired as General Supervisor after 30 ½ years of employment. A young lady named Dorothy Kalb caught Guy’s eye while he was “lapping” one night. She invited him to church where Guy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and Guy and Dorothy were married on April 10, 1948. They shared nearly 65 years of faithful devotion to each other and their Lord until her death on March 3, 2013.

Guy will be remembered for his strength and faithfulness. He went about everything with no complaint and loved his God through even the darkest storms of life. He was a devoted member of the Bucyrus Nazarene Church for over 50 years and the Crestline Nazarene Church since 1998. He was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, board member, food pantry volunteer. He was also a former board member for Broken Arrow. After retirement, Guy and Dorothy spent winters in New Port Richey, Florida and enjoyed traveling, including the Holy Land and Europe. He also joined a Work & Witness group in helping build a church in Guadalajara Mexico. Guy found much solace and fulfillment in fishing with his favorite spots being the Florida Gulf, Lake Erie, and with friends in Canada. At home, he was Mr. Fix-It, tended to his orchard, and followed his grandchildren’s events.

Guy is survived by daughter, Karen (Tom) Kinn; son, David (Glenda) Hamlin; eight grandchildren, Amiee Ward, Melissa (Tony) Ritenour, Matthew (April) Hamlin, Angela (Brock) Neal, Emily (Carlton) Barrett, Hollie Oliveira, Sara Kinn, and Gregory Ford; 13 great grandchildren, Devin, Andrew, Shannon, & Miley Hamlin, Alexis, Olivia, & Ezekiel Ritenour, Skyler, Landon “Tagg”, & Zoe Neal, and Ezra, Tobias, Kristee-Ann, & Thaddeus Barrett.

In addition to his parents and wife, Guy was preceded in death by daughters, Debra Ginter (1978) and Sheryl Abele (2004); son, Richard Hamlin (1987); and siblings, Ralph Hamlin, Cora Stauffer, Jim Francis, Cyrus Francis, Pearl Francis, William Hamlin, Velora Patterson, Mabel Howard, and Mary Greiner.

All services will take place on Tuesday, March 30 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. The Hamlin family will receive friends from 11:30 am – 1:25 pm and his funeral will begin at 1:30 pm with Pastor John Ernsberger officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
