Gregory Shannon Knisely, 67, of Hendersonville, Tenn. and originally from Crawford County, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2014.
He was born in Bucyrus on December 27, 1946 to the late Glenn and Donna (Shumaker) Knisely and was raised on the family’s Remlinger Road farm. He graduated from Col. Crawford High School in 1964 and served the US Army in communications during the Vietnam Conflict. He studied engineering at North Central Tech before starting his career with the Eaton Corporation. He moved to Tennessee with Eaton in the late 1970s and was happily retired.
Greg was a generous and easy-going guy. He will be remembered for his woodworking and artistic talent, especially his paintings and custom-built knives. He loved the companionship of a number of dogs over the years and going fishing in his spare time. He made his way home to Ohio often, especially in recent years to watch his grandsons’ sporting events.
Greg is survived by two children, Jeremy (Shelly) Knisely and Tabitha (Carl) York; five grandchildren, Michael and Dylan Knisely and Kayla, Mitchell and Carson York; great granddaughter, Paisley York; sister, Brenda Kay Harris; aunts, nieces and nephews and his two beloved dogs, Mollie and Maggie.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Welsh and brother-in-law, Bill Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. The Knisely family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 11:30-1:30. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Galion where full military honors will be conducted by the US Army Honor Guard and Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
