Grace Usher

Grace Staton Usher, a former Bucyrus resident, died Aug. 19, 2014 at the home of her son in Kailua, Hawaii, where she had been living for the past year.  She was 99.

Grace was born Oct. 12, 1914, on a farm north of Bucyrus, the daughter of Jesse and Toinette (Wingart) Brinkman.  She was a 1931 graduate of Holmes-Liberty High School, and was a longtime member of Epworth Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir of 25 years.  She was a retired federal employee, having worked at the Shelby Depot and the Columbus Engineer Depot.  She and her second husband also owned an employment agency in Santa Rosa, Calif. for many years. 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Russell Staton in 1957 and Harlan Usher in 2007, daughter Janet L. Staton in 1997, and brothers James, Ross and John Brinkman.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Staton of Kailua, Hawaii; step-daughter Janet Elliott of Medina, Wash. and step-son Ronald Usher of Sacramento, Calif.; granddaughters Janet Seddelmeyer of Fullerton, Calif. and Gwynne Staton of Honolulu and great-granddaughter Pineki Seddelmeyer of Fullerton.

Friends are invited to gather with family at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30 at Wise Funeral Service until we depart for Oakwood Cemetery where her graveside funeral will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Janet L. Staton Memorial Fund at the Columbus Foundation, 1234 East Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43205-1453.  Online expressions of sympathy may be left in a Memorial Guestbook entry below.
