Gilbert H. Ross Jr., 84, died early Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Unger Park Post Acute under the care of SouthernCare Hospice.
He was born at his Lykens Twp. home on January 1, 1941 to the late Gibert Sr. and Delverda (Oberlander) Ross. Gilbert’s love of nature was fostered while growing up on the family farm. He also helped his dad who was a carpenter. After graduating from Lykens High School in 1959, Gilbert was an apprentice and journeyman electrician and member of the IBEW.
Gilbert loved nature and history. When not tending to his own property, he enjoyed going to greenhouses and looking for plants and shrubs. He will be remembered for driving his big Chrysler New Yorker and enjoyed gospel concerts and car shows. He also had the opportunity to visit Israel and Egypt on a few occasions where he did some sightseeing and explored landmarks mentioned in the Bible. He was a member of the former Bucyrus Bible Church and attended faithfully until his health declined.
Gilbert is survived by children, Susie Treese, Lazarus Ross (Hannah Balduf), and Enoch Ross (Nicole Schilling); grandchildren, Jessica Bornstein and Jared Ross; sisters, Alice Beduhn and Marlene (Bob) Ludwig; and his former wife, Jerri (Morris) Burkhead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, JD Treese.
Gilbert’s family will gather privately to lay him to rest in Brokensword Cemetery. Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus assisted with arrangements.
Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Gilbert’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
