George A. Iiams, 80, of Bucyrus, died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at home following a short illness.
He was born in Crestline on July 8, 1940 to the late Merald and Madelyn Foreman Iiams. At 17, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country for three years until his honorable discharge. Upon his return from service, he met Carol Morrow and on October 13, 1961, they married. George worked for 43 years at PPG and retired in 2000.
He enjoyed time spent rebuilding cars and was proud of his efforts put into his 1958 Cadillac as well as a couple of MGs over the years. Eventually George decided to invest in some newer cars and loved driving his 2010 and 2014 Corvettes. He and Carol traveled many roads and enjoyed their friendships made with other fellow Corvette owners through the car club. George also enjoyed deer hunting, salmon fishing and experienced many trips with family and friends to Punta Cana.
In addition to Carol, his wife of 59 years, George is survived by three children, Kim (Dave) Clawson of Bucyrus, Kathy (Tony) Smith of Maryville, Tenn. and Greg Iiams of Crestline; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Clawson, Andy Clawson, Kayla Krusemark, Sidney Krusemark, Jess (Abby) Smith, Allie Smith, Jessie Iiams and Quinton Iiams; two great grandchildren, Sydney Smith and Natalie Smith as well as three siblings, Lillian Iiams, June (Ron) Studer and Bart Thomas (Libby) Anatra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merald (Thelma) Iiams and Madelyn (Bart) Anatra along with two sisters, Jackie Saurers and Brenda Neff.
Though no services will be held for George, his family recommends in lieu of flowers, donations be made payable to any local hospice organization or to the Bucyrus Lions Club. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service who handled his cremation arrangements and expressions of sympathy can be left on his tribute page.
