Gail E. Lauthers, 69, died unexpectedly Monday, July 18, 2016 at Cleveland Clinic.
He was born November 14, 1946 in Bucyrus to the late Carl F. and Ellen R. “Posie” (Parcher) Lauthers. Gail graduated from Col. Crawford High School in 1967 and shortly thereafter was drafted to serve in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his return from service, he was introduced to a young lady by the name of Joy Seigneur and following a brief courtship, they were married on July 10, 1971 in what is now the former First Christian Church. Gail joined the church and served as a trustee and deacon. He was currently a member of Bucyrus United Methodist Church and Gail was also a member of the American Legion Post 181.
Gail worked many years at General Electric and also found enjoyment is caring for his yard and the family cars. Speaking of cars, beside family, they were his passion. He collected car magazines and was always on the lookout for a Ford dealership to peruse their inventory. He never owned any classic hot rods but he was proud to have been a member of the Eliminators Car Club which enabled him an outlet for his love of cars. Gail was also never afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone who would listen and for relaxation, he often watched old westerns such as Bonanza or Gun Smoke or any episode of Star Trek.
He is survived by Joy, his wife of 45 years; one son, Chad Lauthers of Barberton, Ohio; two brothers, Clarence “Clancy” Lauthers, and Ronald Lauthers both of Lexington as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gail is preceded in death by one son, Kurt Lauthers; one brother, Lyle Lauthers who died during infancy and a sister-in-law, Carol Lauthers.
His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Wise Funeral Service. His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bucyrus UMC with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 181 and US Army Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Bucyrus UMC through the funeral home and memories are encouraged to be shared by visiting his tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
