Frederick E. Cowgill, Sr., 75, of Bucyrus, died Monday, May 25, 2015 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
He was born March 9, 1940 in Canton, Ohio to the late Maurice and Ethel (Needs) Cowgill. He worked as a carnival worker for many years and earned the nickname, “Fast Freddie” for the speed at which he set up and tore down. He also worked for a number of years at Fairway Waycraft where he was as a custodian and mowed the area rest stops.
Fred enjoyed many backyard football games and just spending time with his family and he was known for rearranging his furniture on a weekly basis as he always had to be doing something. He and his longtime companion, Betty Drew loved going to Cedar Point and traveling when they had the chance. Fred was a huge football fan and always cheered for his Michigan Wolverines and Cleveland Browns.
In addition to Betty, Fred is survived by four children, Fred (Annette) Cowgill, Jr. of Bucyrus, David Cowgill of Galion, Angie Cowgill and her fiancé, Chazz Bailes of Circleville and Edward Drew of Bucyrus; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Cowgill of Akron and John (Frances) Cowgill of Massillon and two half-brothers, Ruhl Fox and Danny Cowgill.
He is preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Robert, Elgin and Ronald Cowgill and a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Cowgill.
His family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 29 at Wise Funeral Service where his funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in Whetstone Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
