Fred E. Eggelston, 71, of Galion passed away early Saturday, October 1, 2022 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of North Central Ohio.
He was born in Bucyrus on November 12, 1950 to the late Fred F. and Ruth H. (Nickelson) Eggelston. Fred was a Vietnam veteran who served a 14-month tour with the 1st Battalion 39th Field Artillery Regiment. This summer, Fred married the love of his life, the former Jeanette Eldridge.
Fred will be remembered as a kind family man who would give the shirt off his back for friends and family in need. His hugs could take all the stress and worries off your shoulders for that moment, and he loved spoiling his grandchildren. Fred was the man everyone called on for their car problems as he was always working on someone’s car. He loved his children and grandchildren immensely.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Tony, Rikki, and Lovell (fiancée Dawn); grandchildren, Gabriel, Addison, Matteo, and Nico; sisters, Mary (Zane Jr.) Brady and Cookie (Mark) Cuffman; half-brother, Bobby Nickelson; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred’s family will celebrate his life at his home, 916 S. Market St., Galion on Saturday, October 8. Military Honors will be presented by the US Army Honor Guard and Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail at 4:00 pm and family will receive friends from 4-6 pm.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Disabled American Veterans and given through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus who assisted the Eggelstons with arrangements.
Memories and photos can be shared on Fred’s Tribute Wall.
