Franklin J. “Huck” Roelle, Jr., 84, of Bucyrus, died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Heartland of Bucyrus.
He was born Sept. 23, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Franklin J. Sr., and Edith Eleanor (Carroll) Roelle. Huck grew up in Cincinnati, attending Hyde Park High School and Culver Military Academy. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army from 1951 as a radio operator until being honorably discharged in 1953.
Huck went on to graduate from Wittenberg University and worked as a CPA at Stirgwolt, Baldwin and Loofbourrow in Columbus for many years until his retirement. While still working, Huck’s parents lived in Bucyrus and he enjoyed the ability of staying with them on the weekends for a visit and to help care for them. Following his retirement, he moved to Bucyrus and has called this community home ever since.
Growing up in Cincinnati, Huck gained vast amounts of baseball knowledge from some very influential people. This cultivated his great love for the game, especially the Cincinnati Reds who he’s followed since childhood. Huck was a world traveler and was known to have played a few games of Chess through the years.
Huck was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus in Bucyrus; American Legion Post 181 and the Bucyrus Historical Society.
He was an only child and never had children of his own, but he is survived by many loving cousins and extended family including, Patsy Carroll, Joan Kiess Kenley, Jennifer Kiess, Jeffrey Boyd Michael, Jean Emily Michael Eagan, Mary Livingston Michael Haver, William Boyd Michael, Becky Beelman Stauffer, Tena Herman, Patrick Eagan, William Eagan, Jenny Vermillion, Samara and Amalya Haver; a close family friend, Steven Erlsten along with many other friends who will miss his funny sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, Huck is preceded in death many other influential cousins and extended family members.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus, where a Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Fr. John Miller as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 181 and US Army Honor Guards.
