Frances Taylor Ruth, 97, of Bucyrus, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Maplecrest. Her death being on Election Day seemed appropriate as she was patriotic with everything red, white and blue having been married to a WWII veteran.
She was born April 7, 1917 in Gallia County, Ohio to the late Frank and Sadie (Sheets) Irion and was a 1935 graduate of Gallipolis High School. She married John “Warren” Taylor and, while he served in the Army, she worked as a guard for a dynamite plant in Point Pleasant, W.Va. They later moved to New Winchester where they raised their family and others. Others are mentioned as Frances worked as a secretary at both Whetstone and Col. Crawford High School for 37 years and she made it her business to help and protect children who might not be as fortunate as hers. Frances saw to it that her children were involved in activities and would patiently wait while they learned valuable life lessons from their involvement.
Frances was always on the go and lived for socializing with others. She was a member of Bucyrus Methodist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 181 where she served as Chaplain and was in charge of their annual Poppy Day sale. She also had her hand in several other activities and won many special awards through the Legion. Frances served on the board of the Salvation Army where she enjoyed assisting with holiday food baskets and was blessed to annually provide a complete Thanksgiving meal to families for many years.
She enjoyed both her flower and vegetable gardens and there were many shopping trips with her daughter Pam. Frances loved reading novels, collecting cookbooks and liked relaxing to a good movie.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren; son, Larry Taylor; second husband, George Ruth and sister, Grace Johnson.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Pamela Taylor and Gerri (Randy) Scarbro; granddaughter, Cassie (Barry) Herschler; great grandsons, Hayden, Carson, and Kale Herschler, all of Bucyrus; step grandchildren, Angie (Duane) Schramek and Brian (Lindsay) Scarbro and step great grandchildren, Nora and Spencer Scarbro. Also surviving is her close New Winchester buddy, Jim (Melina) Davis and her hairdresser of 37 years, Jule Kaple who enabled Frances to look as beautiful on the outside as she was inside.
