Evelyn Benham

Evelyn J. Benham, 86, of Bucyrus died while resting peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Inn at Orchard Park.

She was born May 13, 1928 in Bucyrus to the late Clarence and Marie (Shumaker) Brinkman. She attended Bucyrus High School where she was a cheerleader, graduating in 1946. She married Daniel H. Benham on April 2, 1949 and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1994.

Evie will be remembered as a rambunctious, trendy lady who loved socializing throughout Bucyrus. She genuinely cared for friends and neighbors. Over the years, she worked at Graetz & Foulk Drugs, Superior Equipment, Norton’s Flowers, United Ohio, Harter’s Showhouse and Cameo Florists. She was a lifelong member of the former First Christian Church where she served as choir director. Evie loved family times. She enjoyed home decorating, taking care of her yard, golfing, shopping and going out for lunch.

Evie is survived by her daughter, Dana (Tom) Walkins and son, David Bradford Benham; grandchildren, who knew her as “Nana”, Heather (Joe) Miller, Krista (Scott) Whitmeyer, Sarah (Jeff) Bessinger and Michele Reeves; great grandchildren, Kelsey, Brydan, Emma, Kaitlyn, Morgan, Chase, Adrienne, Jesse, Allison, Evan, Maxwell, Chynna, Dillon and Alyssa; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Alice Katterhenrich and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by sisters, Clara (Richard) Shackelford and Donna (Millard) Smith; brother, Donald “Bucky” Brinkman; brother-in-law, Paul Katterhenrich and sister-in-law, Joyce (Harold) Seewald.

Friends may call on Monday, March 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be given to Bucyrus Salvation Army, the Holy Trinity St. Francis Community Kitchen or the Crawford County Park District through the funeral home and memories are encouraged in the Memorial Guestbook below.
