Ethel T. Arthur

Ethel T. Arthur, 91, of Bucyrus went to be with Jesus early Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Woodside Village Care Center in Mt. Gilead.

The youngest of 11 children, she was born October 9, 1928 near Clendenin, West Virginia to the late Harrison Cummings and Minnie Evelyn (Warbutton) Schoolcraft. When Ethel was only seven her mother died, and she grew up in the great depression learning to be frugal and independent, working from a very young age to support herself. In the earlier years of her adult life she owned a restaurant called Dusty's Diner. Ethel married Lonnie G. Arthur on February 8, 1947 and they made their way to Ohio in the 1960s. He passed away in 2014 after 67 years of marriage.

Ethel was always known for her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for her warm, hospitable spirit. She was saved at the age of 24, and God called her to preach a few years later, which she did faithfully every chance she was given. She was a member of the Kaler Ave. Church of Christ in Christian Union.

Ethel had a giving heart and would go out of her way to help anyone with a need who came into her life over the years and loved many of them just like family. She never succeeded in out-giving God, but she gave it her best shot. She was beyond hospitable and no one left her home hungry as she always did her best to feed anyone who came to visit whether they were hungry or not. A true homemaker at heart, Ethel loved gardening and canning hundreds of quarts of food every year, and sewing, She always had a word of encouragement for anyone who needed it, and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Ethel is survived by children, Carla (Dee) Arthur, Alan Arthur, Kay (David) Pierce; grandchildren, Gregory Coulliette, Sherri Dindal, Brandon, Gina, and Ashley Arthur, and Drew and Jessi Pierce; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and “adopted” children including Linda Jones-Bardon and George Lore.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by all ten of her siblings.

Services for Ethel will take place on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Kaler Ave. Church of Christ in Christian Union, 521 Kaler Ave, Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 10-10:55 am and the funeral will begin at 11:00 am with Rev. George Lore officiating. Burial will follow in Oceola Cemetery.
