Estella May Browning

Estella May Browning, 86, died, Friday, October 14, 2016 at Heartland of Bucyrus where she was surrounded by family.

Estella was born February 11, 1930 in Bucyrus to the late Charles A. and Carrie (Frost) Davis. On July 7, 1951 she married Fred O. Browning who preceded her in death on April 11, 1984.

Estella’s life revolved around family and following the death of a son in 1958, she made a commitment to God that if He’d grant her another son, she’d devote her life to Christ. So, with her prayer answered, she devoted herself to serving the Lord through the Bucyrus Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday School for 20 plus years, sang in the choir, served on the church board, belonged to the women’s group, helped in the kitchen, and assisted in any way God would use her.

Estella babysat for families early on and loved being a homemaker. She had a big heart and was very encouraging and influential to all who came in contact with her. She was an excellent cook and baker who will be remembered for her fried chicken and potato salad as well as her famous ham and bean and vegetable soups.

She is survived by her greatest accomplishments, her children, Mary (Larry) Traxler, Cindy (Henry) Lewis, Jean Clayton, Betty Browning, William Browning, and Todd Browning; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Estella is also survived by one brother, William Charles (Noveda) Davis as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William and Fred Browning; two brothers, Harold and Clarence Davis; and four sisters, Catherine Heavlin, Mary Wiley, Leota Slagle, and Florence Banks.

Her family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, October 18 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will begin that day at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Rebon officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be given to Bucyrus Assembly of God or to HomeCare Matters Hospice through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
