Ernest George McClintock, 93, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully Monday, January 10, 2022 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following a recent illness.
He was born May 26, 1928 in Bucyrus to the late Leo S. and Mabel (Kent) McClintock and was a graduate of Bucyrus High School. Following graduation, Ernie enlisted with Navy and served from 1946 to 1952. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home at which time he met Lora Jane McDowell. They married on May 28, 1955 and raised four children together and shared many memories along the way. Ernie worked at Swan Rubber for 32 years before his retirement.
Ernie and family did a lot of “old school” camping and enjoyed campsites all over Ohio, Northern Michigan and Pennsylvania. Some of these trips included hunting which was Ernie’s favorite thing to do. No matter what the game, Ernie enjoyed the sport. He also liked walking and spent hours getting lost in the woods admiring nature. A couple of his favorite spots were Sears woods and Aumiller Park.
He was always up for socializing with family and friends at the American Legion Post 181, Moose 669, AMVETS 27 and the VFW 1078; clubs of which he held membership. He enjoyed rooting for the Packers, Browns and Buckeyes and was one to never turn down a cold beer.
Ernie is survived by Jane, his wife of 66 plus years; children, Robin (Marcus) Myers, Teresa (Mike Cox) Dible and Mark McClintock; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jean (Erwin “Bub”) Wagner and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mike “Tic Toc” McClintock; brothers, Donald, Robert, Gerald and Kenneth McClintock as well as a sister, Virginia Orewiler.
Ernie’s family will receive friends from 11 – 12:55 pm Friday, January 14 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will be held that day at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery and Military Rites will be provided by the US Navy and Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
Donations can be made payable to either the Wounded Warrior Project or to the American Cancer Society. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Online memories are encouraged to be shared on his tribute wall.
