Elsie A. Peters

Elsie A. Peters, 96, a longtime resident of Bucyrus, died early December 27, 2013 at Galion Pointe Nursing Home.

She was born June 6, 1917 in Holmes Twp. to the late William Henry and Rebekah Alice (Fritz) Auck and was a 1935 Holmes-Liberty graduate. She married Berton A. Peters in 1962 and together they enjoyed many years of working in their vegetable garden and traveling to visit family until his death in 1976.

Elsie was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and loved participating with the church’s fruit sale. She loved helping others and never asked for anything in return. She spent many years sewing at the Community Action Center in Galion and also enjoyed quilting with her sister. Elsie found peace in reading her Bible and relaxed by watching the birds and squirrels from her window.

She is survived by three children, Joyce Bechtol of Galion, Clyde “Art” Shuey of Bucyrus and Alvin (Marie) Gottfried of Tennessee; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Elsie is preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Shuey and several siblings.

Friends may visit with her family from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, December 31 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will be held, beginning at 11:00 a.m. that day with Pastor Marcellus de Oliveira officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.

Contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
