Eldon B. Cleland, 76, of rural Tiro, died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Triumph Hospital in Mansfield.
He was born May 16, 1935 in Tiro to the late Harry B. "H.B." and Esther (Green) Cleland. Eldon graduated from New Washington High School in 1954 and on August 24, 1955 he married Geneva Neff who survives him.
Eldon began farming in 1958 and throughout the years some of his greatest accomplishments happened in the fields. He always took pride in his crops; yet appreciated completing the harvest so that he and Geneva could do some of the things that they enjoyed most which were spending time with family, traveling or going on cruises and dining out. Eldon was a considerate, simple, and easy going man. He also liked fishing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife of 55 years, Eldon is survived by three sons, Dennis and Debra Cleland of New Washington, Douglas and Tracy Cleland of Tiro and Randall and Sarah Cleland of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Joe (Shannan) Cleland, Chris Cleland, Sara (Blaine) Rowlinson, Matthew (Holly) Cleland, Mark Cleland, Eric Cleland, Allison Cleland, Jackson Cleland and Hope Cleland; seven great grandchildren; one brother, William (Marlene) Cleland of Attica and a brother-in-law, Richard Dallas of New Washington.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Cleland; one brother, David Cleland and three sisters, Bonnie Clark, Joan Alt and Wilma Dallas.
