Edward E. Wagner, 87, of Bucyrus, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at The Inn at Orchard Park.
He was born January 9, 1925 at the family farm house in rural Bucyrus to the late Frank and Anna (Keppler) Wagner and was a 1942 graduate of North Robinson High School. Ed was proud to have served his country during WWII in the US Army where he was responsible for the transport of POWs.
He returned home and on January 25, 1948 married Marjorie E. Dinkel. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her passing on August 3, 2002. Together they raised a family, enjoyed traveling (which always included back roads), attended events that involved grandchildren and also hung wallpaper for family members. Ed believed in working hard and providing for his family. He was employed at NOBA in Tiffin for a number of years before accepting a truck driving position with Eckleberry Poultry where he remained until retiring in 1987.
Edward was a member of the former Grace UMC where he and Marjorie enjoyed attending the Ever Faithful Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau, American Legion, Post 181 and a former member of Y's Men Club. He loved working in his garden and tinkering around the farm and when the weather was bad, he would stay inside and put together puzzles.
He is survived by his children, Ron (Joanne) Wagner of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Jennie (Roger) Lyons of Sandy, Utah, Vicki (Ken) Whitmeyer and Debbie (Jeff) Teynor both of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and a brother-in-law, Arlo Brown of Bucyrus.
Along with his parents and wife, Edward is preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Lake and Carol Brown.
The Wagner family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, January 7 at Wise Funeral Service where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
Memorial contributions may be given to Bucyrus United Methodist Church, Southern Care Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
