Edward A. Schott, 82, of Bucyrus died Friday afternoon, August 30, 2013 at Bucyrus Community Hospital after he had become ill in recent months.
A lifelong Bucyrian, Ed was born May 12, 1931 to the late Victor and Esther (Norris) Schott. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1949 and worked with his dad and uncle at Schott Brothers Sales, a legacy now being operated by the third generation of Schotts. Ed was introduced to Joyce Shealy at an ice cream shop and after a few years of courtship, they were married February 12, 1955. They shared 53 years of marriage until her death February 19, 2008.
Ed will be remembered as a charmer to some and temperamental to others, but you always knew where you stood with him. When not working, he could be found fishing and boating on Lake Erie, enjoying countless hours reeling them in. He also enjoyed bowling for a number of years and was a die-hard sports fan, following the Indians every summer on WJR radio, watching the Browns and rooting on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He watched his grandchildren play sports at Col. Crawford and always remained fond of his Redmen. Over the years, Ed also played cards and went to car parties with his dad and fellow car dealers in the region. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and socialized with the Elks and American Legion.
Ed is survived by his children, Monica Niedermeier of Bucyrus, Joan Shy of Longmont, Colo. and Andy (Tammy) Schott of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Lisa Niedermeier, Ryan Niedermeier, Peter Gormley, Sarah Gormley, Lindsay Schott and Bailey Schott.
