E. Richard Hieber, 84, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Heartland of Bucyrus.
He was born August 24, 1930 in Bucyrus to the late Edgar M. and D. Blanche (Miller) Hieber and was a 1948 graduate of Lykens High School. Dick worked at the Lykens Elevator, which was owned by his father, and a short time after marrying Irene E. Brause in 1950 he began working at Timken where he was a dedicated employee, retiring as a supervisor following over 31 years of employment. Following retirement, Dick and Irene worked for two auctioneers for a number of years.
Dick loved watching sporting events. He followed every Cleveland team and was also a big OSU and Wynford fan, especially if his grandchildren were playing. In fact, whatever activity his grandchildren were involved in, Dick was there to let them know how important they were. He loved going to antique shows and he was very gifted at caning furniture, a talent he shared with family and friends. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus where he always enjoyed singing his favorite hymn, In the Garden.
In addition to Irene, his wife of nearly 65 years, Dick is survived by two sons, Michael (Kathy) Hieber of Middletown, Ohio and Randall (Beckie) Hieber of Bucyrus; five grandchildren, Misty Blue of Bucyrus, Leanna (Marcos) Hieber of New York City, Kelsey Hieber of Denver, Colorado, Ryan (Andrea) Hieber of Perrysburg, Ohio and Rich (Tara) Hieber of Delaware; five great-grandchildren, Marlie Hosey, Mia McKenzie, Jack Hieber, Crosby Hieber and Carson Gravatt. Also surviving is a brother, Donald (Alice) Hieber of Bloomville and a sister, Carol Ream of Florida. Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Janeen Ritchie.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May, 28 at Wise Funeral Service with Gene Luidhardt, SAM officiating. Friends are welcome to gather with his family one hour prior to the service and a private burial will take place in Brokensword Cemetery.
His family specifically requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either HomeCare Matters Hospice or the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
