E. Beverly Barkenquast

Edith Beverly Barkenquast, née Barnes, 86, who was born to the late Leonard Bradford and Edith Laura (Clogston) Barnes on February 12, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.She graduated from Springfield High School in 1945 and then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio in 1948 where she was awarded the Alumni Scholarship. Edith later earned her BS in Nursing from Wittenberg College in Springfield. Her nursing career included work as a Hospital Staff Nurse, Industrial Nurse and Public Health Nurse and Supervisor. On September 25, 1965, she was married in Moscow, USSR to the Rev. James L. Barkenquast, then serving as Protestant Chaplain to the English-speaking community in the city. She enjoyed this adventure, including opportunities to travel in Europe.Edith was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, Ohio where she moved with her husband in 1988 as he undertook pastoral work there. She leaves behind her husband of 48 years; their daughter, Laura Ruth Barkenquast; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and a great grandnephew.Edith's family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Saturday, November 9 from 5-7 p.m. and Sunday, November 10 from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Her funeral will be held at Good Hope Lutheran Church on Monday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. and she will be laid to rest in Springfield's Ferncliff Cemetery on Tuesday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m.Memorial donations may be given to Graceworks Lutheran Services through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W.
