George Wesley Bowersock, MD, 82, of Bucyrus, passed away August 5, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital. He was born in Damascus, Ohio to the late Burton and Hazel Bowersock and moved to Bucyrus in 1962, as a family physician. He is survived by his sister, Lynn (Fred) Roucloux; brother, Larry (Mary) Bowersock; half-brother, Dale (Dee) Bowersock and half-sister, Jean (Dave) Kress.
He was a humble Christian man of integrity and many accomplishments, and will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his church and the community he served as a physician and anesthesiologist. Dr. Bowersock dedicated his life to his family and patients and was respected by everyone who knew him. He will be loved and remembered forever by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Marshall) Bowersock; his children, Beth Routzahn (Steve), Cindy Thiel (Tiger), Joan Weisenauer (Dave); and his beloved grandchildren, Sarah Campbell (Shawn), Randall Kelley (Heather), Amanda Routzahn, Rachel Miracle (Matt), Tim Routzahn (Sarah), Esther Kelley, Emily Johnson (Jesse), Mackenzie Thiel, Kelsey Thiel, Madison Thiel; and his six great-grandchildren, McKenna, Felix, Finnegan, Kaelynn, Lillian, and William.
He was raised in Damascus and graduated from Goshen High School. Dr. Bowersock graduated in 1959 from The Ohio State College of Medicine. After graduating medical school, he completed his internship at White Cross United Methodist Hospital (now Riverside). From 1960-62 he served as a U.S. Public Health provider for an Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona before beginning his private practice in Bucyrus.
Dr. Bowersock was a family doctor and anesthesiologist in the Bucyrus area for nearly 40 years. Over the years, he delivered over 1100 babies and was extremely dedicated to his work. Dr. Bowersock was known to his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as a compassionate, caring physician and his legacy will leave a lasting impression on all he has met.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8 at First Church of the Nazarene, 2165 St. Rt. 4, Bucyrus with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gideons International or to the First Church of the Nazarene. The donations may be given at Wise Funeral Service or the church on the morning of the funeral. Expressions of sympathy may be left in the Memorial Guestbook below.
