Dorothy L. “Dottie” Etzinger, 95, of Bucyrus died peacefully at home Saturday evening, October 25, 2014. Her health had been declining in recent months.
Born in Upper Sandusky to the late “Doc” and Mabelle “Bubble” (Barney) Culver, Dottie attended school in both Marion and Upper Sandusky. Harold Etzinger of Bucyrus was at a dance in Upper with a friend when Dottie caught his eye for the first time. After dating for three years, Harold and Dorothy were married February 28, 1937 and settled in Bucyrus. Her “One True Love” preceded her in death September 11, 1985.
Dottie worked mostly as a homemaker and briefly as a concessionaire at the France Roller Arena. Sundays were always memorable at the Etzinger’s, from taking the kids to a show after stopping at Ma Nedele’s for a treat in the early years to having family over for cookies, popcorn or fudge as they grew up. She was feisty, fun and imaginative and will be remembered for the games she or her grandchildren dreamed up or keeping herself busy with solitaire and other card games. Never wanting for herself, she was always very giving, whether with baked goods or a spare dollar to a charity in need. Dottie faithfully read her Bible and shared meaningful verses with her family. Though she never learned to drive, Dottie did enjoy taking rides and a few short trips over the years but always longed to be at home where she could see her loved ones or anyone who dropped in to say hello.
Dorothy is survived by four of her children, Margie Kline, Terry (Kristina) Etzinger, Kathy (John) Friend and Sherry Stevens; 12 grandchildren, BettieJean “BJ” Monroe (Jeff Langlois), Tina (Frank) Jerger, Toni Ard (Elvis Torres), Terry (Kathy) Etzinger II, Rhonda Sanford, Mark (Shea) Etzinger, Scott (Christine) Lodge, Anthony (Lourdes) Lodge, Lisa (Rick) Beachy, John Robert Friend II (Misty Dyer), Chad Napier (Lovie Herrera) and Angel (Brian) Alban; 22 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and true love and husband of 48 years, Harold Etzinger, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Gerri) Etzinger; two grandchildren, Roger Phillip Monroe Jr. and Brenda Lee Etzinger; one great grandson, Quinn Foreman; brother, Chet Culver and sister, Marion “Toodles” Bartholomew.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 31 at 1:30 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus with special “daughter” Rev. Micki Webb officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
