Doris K. Schieber, 92, of Elyria and formerly of Bucyrus died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria where she resided for eight years.
She was born May 8, 1921 in Whetstone Twp. to the late Walter J. and Pearl E. (Lust) Schieber. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her siblings, Arthur J. Schieber and Ruth L. Schieber.
Doris went to school at Sulphur Springs where she was in the Orchestra, Glee Club, Friendship Club and choirs and was her class secretary, graduating in 1939. She graduated in 1943 from Ohio Northern with a BS in Education, earned her Masters in Education from Northwestern University and had additional graduate studies at the University of Illinois-Urbana. Doris was among Pan-Am’s earliest flight attendants, helping her fulfill a longstanding desire to see the world. Music was always her biggest passion though. Doris was a professor of music at various schools and retired from Oberlin College & Conservatory. She served as choir director in a number of churches and organizations, including the Dow Chemical Co. She also enjoyed painting, drawing and crafts at Wesleyan Village.
Private graveside services will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Bucyrus. Memorial donations may be given to Oberlin College for Conservatory Scholarships through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories are encouraged in the Memorial Guestbook below.
