Doris J. Bloom, 88, died peacefully Thursday, November 15, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Findlay where she was being cared for due to declining health.
She was born April 18, 1930 at home in Bucyrus as the fifth of ten children and the first-born daughter of the late Lester Carl and Mary C’Dale (Myers) Rehm. Doris was a 1948 graduate of Bucyrus High School, and soon thereafter began working as a secretary at the YMCA. This is where she met William J. Bloom who had just moved to Bucyrus and on November 23, 1952 they married. They enjoyed 64 years together until his death on January 8, 2017.
Doris left her job at the Y to raise her family and as they grew older, she began working outside the home once again. She was most proud of her years spent working as a secretary in the Physical Therapy Dept. at Bucyrus Community Hospital which concluded her work career.
Doris was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and Order of Eastern Star. When it came time to support her grandchildren at their sporting events or activities, she was present. She and Bill also enjoyed many travels across the country with their fellow Shriner friends. Doris cherished time spent with her sisters at their weekly breakfast gatherings which often occurred at Bob Evans. This was a tradition that spanned over many years. She also enjoyed reading, planting flowers around her home and feeding the birds and squirrels. She will certainly be remembered for always having a fresh pot of coffee to share at any time of the day with friends and family. What really made her day was time spent with their dog, Joey. To say she spoiled her dog is an understatement, as she all but had a seat for him at the table and certainly shared, if not fed him a little of anything she ate.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Lucinda “Cindy” (Stephen) Ross of Bucyrus and Ellen (Lynn) Passet of Findlay; nine grandchildren, Rachel (Matthew) Fix, Chelstin Ross, Christian Ross and fiancée, RoseMarie Frizzell, Ashley (Adam) Knox, Brian Butte, Kara (Nate) Fawcett, Christine (Adrian) VanHoosier, David (Kayla) Passet and Allison Passet; ten great-grandchildren, Olin, Ivy, Esme, Kurtis, Kyle, Kaden, Nora, Morgan, Adley and Regan. Also surviving are four sisters, MaryAnn (Lee) Kerdolff, Shirley Rehm, Susan (Jim) Oberlander and Carol (Kenny) Bell as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Wayne, John, Jack and Richard Rehm.
In keeping with the wishes of Doris, a private family graveside funeral be held at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. James Barkenquast to officiate.
Donations can be made payable to either Humane Society for Crawford County or to Crawford Park District. These will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service.
