Doris E. Heft

Doris E. Heft, 92, of Nevada, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Westbrook Assisted Living in Upper Sandusky.

She was born August 3, 1920 in Chatfield to the late Minus S. and Florence M. (Shoup) Leonhart and was a 1938 graduate of Chatfield High School. On July 5, 1942 she married Ivan W. Heft. Doris had a very strong work ethic; working as a homemaker and also enjoyed helping with the daily farm duties until her husband's death in 1957. She also worked as a cook at Holmes Liberty, Wynford and Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky where she spent her last 20 years of employment before retiring.

Doris was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bucyrus and recently enjoyed attending church with her son on occasion at Lemert UMC. She was also a member of the Oceola Homemakers and Wyandot Travel Club.

She is survived by two children, Roger Heft and wife, Joan of Nevada and Carol Rugh and husband, David of Lewis Center; two grandchildren, Cariann (Taj) Sampson and Jodi (Jeffrey) Nelson; four great grandchildren, Brayden and Kinsey Sampson and Cody and Dylan Nelson; one brother, Milton (Ruth) Leonhart of Chatfield and two sisters, Pauline Shade of Attica and Marilyn (Herbert) Shade of Republic.

Doris was a friendly and lovable lady who adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked attending basketball games and trips to the State Fair with her close friends, Elva Mae Daiber, Elizabeth Wilson and Florence Haefer and when it came to traveling, you could count Doris in. Whether with family or on one of her many bus trips throughout the eastern United States, Doris enjoyed being on the go. She also found time to work in her garden, crochet and would unwind by watching The Waltons on television.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, September 13 at Wise Funeral Service where funeral services will be held that morning beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don L. Neumann officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Wyandot County Hospice through the funeral home.
