Donna Mae Corona

Donna Mae Corona, 85, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Heartland of Bucyrus following a recent stroke.

She was born January 18, 1929 in Bucyrus to the late John B. and Elsie M. (Ferguson) Willie and was a 1946 graduate of Bucyrus High School. One afternoon, while walking by Corona’s Fruits and Vegetables, she caught the eye of Frank C. Corona and from that moment, a relationship formed. The two were married on February 22, 1951.

Donna grew up in the United Brethren Church but because her love for Frank was so strong, she, unbeknownst to him, converted to the Catholic faith and became a member of Holy Trinity Church where she was active with the Rosary Altar Society. Donna was formerly a Red Hat Society Member and a Cub Scout Den Mother for a number of years.

Donna cared for her family as a homemaker and also worked for the Crawford County Board of Elections for 20 years, serving as the Director. Though she loved Frank and her children, her grandchildren were the ones she spoiled the most. She found great joy in sending them all cards, following their activities and always had treats and snacks for them. If Donna knew of their favorite type of food, you could bet it was included in the next holiday meal and she and Frank never took a winter vacation as she couldn’t stand being away from her grandchildren.

Earlier in life, Donna did enjoy camping and the family has traveled through nearly every state on camping trips. She loved decorating for any holiday season, creating crafts for the Holy Trinity Bazaar, baking cookies and setting up the card table so she could do jigsaw puzzles.

In addition to her longtime best friend and husband Frank, Donna is survived by her children, Frank (Tricia) Corona, Jr. of Freeport, Ohio, Carey (Jacki) Corona of Ontario, Chris (Mike) Spaid and Debbie Shields, both of Bucyrus; 13 grandchildren, Jesse (Wesley) Williamson, Jenny Corona, Emily Corona, Leslie (Joe) Cinadr, Lisa (Mark) Cattran, Michael Corona, Matt (Sara) Corona, Marc (Sara) Corona, Alisha (Jason) Miller, Annie (Chris) Clark, Adrienne (Matt) Ruhe, Kelly (Josh) Ard and Kevin (Monica) Shields; 22 great grandchildren and one sister, Helen L. (Lee) Ludwick of Mansfield.

Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday March 9 at Wise Funeral Service where a Rosary Service will be held that evening, at the conclusion of calling hours. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions be made to either Holy Trinity School Endowment Fund or Homecare Matters Hospice through the funeral home. To share an expression of sympathy, please sign the Memorial Guestbook, below.
