Donna L. Gorenflo

Donna L. Gorenflo, 66, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021 in Florida where she and her family loved to vacation and spend as much time as possible. She had been in failing health for several years.

She was born on January 20, 1955 in Bucyrus to Robert and Donna (Hayes) Clark. Donna went to Wynford High School where she was active in various clubs, played basketball, ran track, and captained the bowling team. She went on to study nursing in Columbus before meeting Richard Gorenflo while lapping in downtown Marion. They were married November 27, 1974. She finished her nursing degree and worked for Marion General Hospital before furthering her education, eventually earning her master’s degree and working as a Nurse Practitioner. She helped establish the heart failure clinic at Marion General and worked with Mid-Ohio Cardiology in Mansfield until her health no longer permitted.

Donna will be remembered as a fighter, planner, and competitor who loved sports and travel. She was a force to be reckoned with as a bowler, winning the Bucyrus Ladies Invitational a record 5 times and competing in 30 Nationals along with her mom. Favorite travel destinations included New Orleans, Nashville, and cruises with her favorite location being Destin where she visited countless times with friends and family. As a youngster, Donna was the driving force behind the installation of lights for Aumiller Park’s softball field, securing donations after being told it couldn’t be done. She was a hands-on mother who took her sons to practice and practiced with them. Her enthusiasm for sports even turned to dance as her granddaughters became involved. She was able to prolong her own life and that of all she cared for through her drive and tenacious spirit.

In addition to her parents and husband of 46 years, Donna is survived by sons, John (Jenny) Gorenflo and Ray Gorenflo (fiancée, Amy Taylor); granddaughters, Emma, Ella, and Mikaela; sister-in-law, Judy Clark; nieces and nephews and their families, Lee (Kris) Rowlinson, Jessica (Chris) Stake, Rebecca Clark, Elizabeth (Wesley) Neville, and Sarah (Chris) Eicher; as well as Richard’s mother, Nellie Gorenflo and his siblings and their families.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Bobby and Tom Clark and father-in-law, Bud Gorenflo.

Donna’s family will receive friends on Sunday, August 22 from 2-5 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where her funeral will begin on Monday at 10:30 am with Pastor Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.

Donations are encouraged to be made payable to Lupus Foundation of America and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Donna’s tribute page.
