Donald E. Crum

Donald E. Crum, 91, of New Washington, died Monday, July 18, 2011 at The Inn at Orchard Park.

He was born July 5, 1920 at home in New Washington to the late Wilson and Irene (Ledman) Crum. Donald graduated from Tiro High School in 1938 and on January 18, 1942 he married Helen Schimpf who preceded him in death on December 12, 1997.

“Grandpa”, as many new him, was a sincere man who had a strong faith in Christ. He loved his family and he loved to farm. His farm was a complete operation consisting of livestock, agriculture and poultry. He also owned horses, which were more of a hobby. He bred them and always enjoyed using them in various parades. He looked forward to reading his bible every morning and enjoyed mealtime with family.

Donald was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church on Ridgeton Road; the Farm Bureau; he was involved with 4-H and served on the New Washington Equity Board for many years.

He is survived by three children, David (Tami) Crum of Bucyrus, Janet (Dan) Jarvis of Columbus and Judy (John) Tong of Prospect; fourteen grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Bidlack, Doug (Angie) Crum, Kristy (Frankie) Walters, Jonn Knowlton, Tammy (Matt) Studer, Tina (Steve) Seiler, Brad (Charity) Chelton, Jessica (Todd) Luken, Andrew Chelton, Emily Jarvis, Christopher Jarvis, Jennifer Tong, Jay Tong and Jordan Tong; eleven great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Crum of New Washington.

Donald is preceded in death by a son, Glen Crum, a son-in-law, Ronald Chelton and four sisters, Florence Lechner, Millie Cole, Edna Shull and Olive Egner.

Family will receive friends from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 pm Thursday, July 21 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Ridgeton Road with Pastor Hans Scherner and Pastor Jack Kocsis officiating, Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to HomeCare Matters or to St. Paul Lutheran Church through the funeral home.
