Dolores R. Hewitt, 96, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at her home.
She was born November 18, 1921 in Bucyrus to the late Leo H. and Eleanor (Lichtle) Kinn. Dolores was a 1939 graduate of Bucyrus High School and one year later received her cosmetologist license from Bustin Beauty Academy in Columbus.
Dolores used her abilities from her training to help many ladies feel better about themselves. Her work career spanned from Kantzer’s Beauty Shop to running a salon out of her home called Dolores’ Beauty Shop and she finished her career at Shafer’s, retiring in 1973.
On March 6, 1943, Dolores married Paul Mollenkopf who preceded her in death on May 14, 1962. On January 22, 1968 she married Earl B. Hewitt who was a longtime partner with Wise Funeral Service and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1984.
Dolores was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she belonged to the Rosary Altar Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a 25 year volunteer at the hospital gift shop and also belonged to various social clubs through the years. She loved hosting holiday sit-down dinners and cookouts with her family, crocheting, polka dancing, golfing, card clubs, working in her flower beds, and most recently looked forward to time spent with her Wednesday lunch bunch lady friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Mollenkopf and Robert (Donna) Mollenkopf and stepson, Jack (Kay) Hewitt, all of Bucyrus. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mathew (Serena) Mollenkopf, Justin (Fawn) Mollenkopf, Carissa (Phillip) Chester, Jessica (Jordan) Rall, and Tim (Janet) Shultz; seven great grandchildren with one expected; step grandchildren, Erik (Christy) Hewitt, Ty (Michell) Hewitt, Kara (Alex) Hewitt Parker, and Mitch Hewitt and their families; and one brother, Kenneth Kinn of Bucyrus.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Dolores was preceded in death by two brothers, Cyril and Lowell Kinn; stepson, James Hewitt; sister-in-law, Dudy Kinn; and best friend and daughter, Paula Kay Clegg.
Friends may call from 4-7 pm Friday, October 26 at Wise Funeral Service where a 7 pm Rosary service will conclude the evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Fahrbach as celebrant. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made payable to Holy Trinity Catholic Church and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dolores’ Tribute Wall.
