David M. Oberlander

David Michael Oberlander, age 73, formerly of Bucyrus, surrendered his earthly cares for a heavenly home May 15, 2011 at The Woodlands Assisted Living Facility in Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his loving father, James E. Oberlander. Survived by his wife of 34 years, Odessa M. Oberlander; his mother, Frances L. Oberlander, age 95; son, Michael David (Teresa); grandson, Ryan Edward Oberlander and a daughter, Cathleen Oberlander.

David will be missed by his stepchildren, Marjorie Lynn (Bobby) Reese, Randy Scott (Carol) Cantrell and Gregory Allen Cantrell; grandchildren, Danica C. (Bradley) Robertson, Brandy M. Reese, Amanda N. and Savanna L. Cantrell; great grandchildren, Chase C. Reese, Reese Ann, Caleb James and Ethan Burns Robertson; sister, Connie (Jerry) Beatty; nephew, David Marc (Deirdre) Beatty; niece, Rebecca Elizabeth (Greg) Tholken; great nieces, Regan Margaret and Blair Constance Beatty, Noelle Elizabeth and Jenifer Elizabeth Tholken; great-nephews, William Austin and Garrett Lamont Tholken, and David Marc Beatty, Jr. He will also be missed by friends, associates, and other family members.

David was a graduate of Bucyrus H.S. and Olivet Nazarene University with a BS in Mathematics. He spent his working years employed in the world of computers at Rockwell International, Kobacker, The Limited and finally retiring from American Electric Power in 2000. David enjoyed all sports, especially Ohio State Football. He enjoyed playing softball for his church league. Dave was an accomplished pianist and played for church weddings, funerals, choir groups and the sheer enjoyment of his many friends and family.

Pastor Wesley Frederick will officiate the funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at Wise Funeral Service. Friends and family may call one hour to the service. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice through the funeral home.
