David Luidhardt

David E. Luidhardt, 72, of rural New Washington was ushered into heaven Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2015 at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus where he was fortunate to be surrounded by all his children and family.

He was born November 24, 1942 on Orr Road in Chatfield Twp. to the late Calvin and Mary (Cameron) Luidhardt and was raised for a good portion of his childhood by his grandparents, the late Harvey and Edna Luidhardt. After attending Chatfield High School, he was a member of the first graduating class of Buckeye Central High School in 1961. While in school, he met LaVon Pfahler and they were married October 2, 1964. She survives having been blessed with 50 years of marriage.

David was a loyal and faithful employee of PPG Industries in Crestline for 43 years, earning numerous attendance awards, and served in the Army National Guard in Tiffin from 1964-1970.

David always loved to build and tinker and was a jack of all trades, slow and meticulous with every project, often quoting his Grandpa Harvey’s philosophy, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” He’ll be remembered for his long jokes, intricate and thoughtfully wrapped gifts and his love for farming equipment and photography, some of his work being selected for the PPG company calendar. David looked forward to the Crawford County Fair every summer, especially the tractor pulls and horse races, though he never gambled. He enjoyed a cold Pepsi and slice of bread with jelly and loved the opportunity to travel to see his children and grandchildren.

He was a member and current chairman of the board of the Lust Cemetery Association, board member of the Portage Holiness Camp and yearly attendee of the Beulah Beach Bible and Missions Conference. David and LaVon were 1970 charter members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Bucyrus where he was a trustee for 40 years, 17 as chairman; served 35 years in the audio and tape ministry and 13 years as a youth fellowship adult leader.

David was passionate, proud and pleased of his family: daughter, Julie (Jonathan) Suter of Waldo and their sons, Benjamin and Jonathan Jordan (Nicole) Suter and children, Jaxon and Johanna; daughter, Teresa (Mike) Oberlander and son Ryan of Gurnee, Illinois; son, Keith (Danielle) Luidhardt and children, Brandon, Cassandra and Nathan of Alamogordo, New Mexico; son, Kurt (Kristen) Luidhardt of Greenwood, Indiana and son, Gene (Annie) Luidhardt and children, Grace, Dax, Hayden, Asher and Kieran of Bloomington, Indiana.

David is also survived by siblings, Daniel (Kay) Luidhardt, Melvin Luidhardt, Lavina Newcomer, Ann (Graham) Dunn, Cathy (Randy Main) Bloomfield, Edward (Cheryl) Luidhardt and Janet (Dick) Dunbar; Aunt Connie Luidhardt, Uncle Donald Rothhaar, Aunt Eileen Auck; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne Auck, Rev. Ray (Wanda) Pfahler and Dr. Larry (Deborah) Pfahler.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Auck and in-laws, Lewis and Gladys Pfahler.

The Luidhardt family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 16 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 am at First Alliance Church, 1955 Hopley Ave. in Bucyrus with Pastor Bill Strader officiating, followed by burial in Lust Cemetery, Chatfield.
