David R. Leuthold, 69, of Bucyrus died Sunday evening, August 23, 2015 at The OSU Wexner Medical Center where he was being cared for after a series of recent illnesses.
He was born in Bucyrus to the late Pastor Reuben and Lois (McDonald) Leuthold. David went to Mt. Zion and graduated from Wynford High School, attended Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon and served in the US Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant from 1966-1968. David retired from the Baja Marine Corporation where he was a woodworker.
David will be remembered for his generosity, love of fishing and nature. He loved taking rides in his truck, often stopping at a park or roadside to watch and feed birds. He operated a bakery on the north end of Bucyrus where he often gave free donuts to the hungry. Many dogs were spoiled by David, including his current companion, Ugly. In recent years, his favorite times were those spent with his grandchildren.
David is survived by his daughter, Heidi (Dave) Hendrickson; grandchildren, Skyla, Braxton and David; and his brother, Daniel (Karen) Leuthold of Midvale, Idaho. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jacob.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 26 with Pastor Danny Akers officiating and will conclude with military honors by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
Memories can be shared with donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice and condolences can be left in the memorial guestbook below.
